Pacific Ocean - British Columbia

With the world's longest coastline, Canada is truly an ocean nation. But there's little being done to safeguard our marine environment. While Australia recently protected over 35 per cent of its marine ecosystems, Canada protects less than one per cent.

Together, we can help ensure Canada's coastal waters are properly managed and protected for decades to come, so the people you love can continue to find the magic and wonder of a healthy ocean.  The David Suzuki Foundation Ocean Protection Group

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has both the experience and facilities to monitor and track the spread of radionuclides released from Fukushima in the waters of the Pacific Coast of North America. The Institution and the Center for Marine and Environmental Radiation (CMER) are uniquely equipped to provide consistent, accurate assessment of both natural and manmade radiation in marine samples and is hosting this site to make this information readily available to everyone in a timely manner.

Mission Blue is a global initiative of the Sylvia Earle Alliance, a 501c3 organization, which was formed in response to Sylvia Earle’s 2009 TED Prize wish.
Dr. Earle urged people: to use all means at your disposal— films, expeditions, the web, new submarines — to create a campaign to ignite public support for a global network of marine protected areas; Hope Spots large enough to save and restore the blue heart of the planet.
Currently, the Mission Blue community includes 50+ respected ocean conservation groups and like-minded organizations — from large multinational companies down to individual scientific teams doing important research.

SeaChoice, Canada’s most comprehensive sustainable seafood program, is about solutions for healthy oceans. Launched in 2006, SeaChoice was created to help Canadian businesses and shoppers take an active role in supporting sustainable fisheries and aquaculture at all levels of the seafood supply chain. Based on scientific assessments, SeaChoice has created easy-to-use tools that help you make the best seafood choices.

Skipper Otto's CSF: Fresh, Local, & Ethically Caught Seafood. Skipper Otto’s Community Supported Fishery (CSF) creates a direct connection between local fishermen and thoughtful consumers. This partnership fosters the protection of ocean resources while providing premium, wild, fairly-traded, Ocean Wise seafood.

Wild Planet is committed to providing the finest tasting sustainably caught seafood while supporting the conservation of wild marine ecosystems.

Pole and troll tuna fishing is rated as the best catch method for tuna by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch® program, Blue Ocean Institute, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Greenpeace and other industry experts.

Wild Planet sources tuna ONLY from pole and troll catch fisheries.

We do not source ANY fish from long-line or purse seine fisheries.

Please note how Wild Planet's providing 100% sustainably caught products compares to other major sustainable brands' claims that they will be sustainable compliant by 2014 or 2015. Some companies' efforts to reach compliance for sustainability include using FAD-free purse seining, which is not considered a best catch method by a consensus of eco-organizations.

We already are 100% compliant and have been since 2004.

Wild Planet workers take delivery of the fish right off the boats, and many of the boat owners are shareholders in our company. This gives us the advantage of being one of the very few packaged seafood companies that oversees selecting only the highest quality fish from the catch, directing quality control in the packing of the product and offering the product to our customers. With this hook-to-shelf oversight, we are able to assure that our products are the best tasting possible and in compliance with our mission.

From small to large-scale spills to fires, explosions and worker deaths

Through an access-to-information request, CBC News obtained a data set of every pipeline safety incident reported to the federal regulator in the past 12 years.

The National Energy Board oversees cross-border pipelines. The data doesn’t include smaller pipelines within provincial boundaries.

The documents reveal details about more than 1,000 incidents that have happened across the country from 2000 until late 2012 and suggest the rate of overall incidents has doubled in the past decade.
